BioSuck‘s focus lies on establishing an MS-Excel-based decision support system (DSS) that is supposed to instigate a re-design in the food-processing industry. The goal is an optimised handling of the disposal, transport and recycling of waste and wastewater. A fitting solution consists in pneumatic sewer systems. With a vacuum sorting process, waste fractions can be concentrated, separated and collected. Fractions with a high organic content may offer further use as a nutrient source or in bioenergy processes. Through the use of a DSS, an optimal combination of solution approaches can be developed that will be applicable in different sectors of the foodstuffs industry. Waste flows have to be examined, recorded, measured and analysed with regard to their composition. Based on the results, an adequate pilot facility can be constructed to generate data from practical use. All project tasks and work steps are defined as work packages (WP) both qualitatively and time-wise and are assigned to the responsible project partners. IWR GmbH works on the WPs 1, 2, 6 and 7.

The focus of these particular WPs lies on the planning and dimensioning of a vacuum system for the use in the foodstuffs industry. BioSuck is an EU project by an international project group, consisting of IWR GmbH, Fraunhofer UMSICHT , the Norwegian University of Science and Technology Trondheim NTNU, and the Institute for Ecology of Industrial Areas Katowice IETU, and is led by the Ministry of the Environment of Poland.
