Photovoltaic system on elevated tank site completed

IWR GmbH, which is responsible for the technical management of the Dörnberg water procurement association (WBV), was commissioned by the association to plan a photovoltaic system on the Dörnberg III elevated tank property. The elevated tank is located in the municipality of Habichtswald and is not in a drinking water protection area, a nature conservation area or a flora-fauna habitat area. The approval procedure was carried out in accordance with. Annex to Section 63 HBO, Section I, No. 3.9.2 with a height of the PV system of up to 3 m subject to Section V No. 1. The work was recently completed. The structural and technical acceptance tests were carried out without any significant objections.

Solar power for elevated tank III in Dörnberg

Battery storage ensures pump operation even during exceptional events

A total of 50 PV modules with an output of 325 Wp each were installed for the ground-mounted system, giving the system a total output of 16.25 kWp. This means an average electricity yield of approx. 16,250 kilowatt hours per year. A 10 kWh battery storage unit also serves as an emergency backup power system to ensure the supply of drinking water during exceptional events. The new PV system with battery storage can supply the elevated tank, including all pumps, for several hours during exceptional events, even at night or when there is little sunlight. The solar power system also pays off financially: at current electricity prices, an amortization period of between 7 and 9 years can be assumed.
