{"id":14742,"date":"2025-05-16T11:16:28","date_gmt":"2025-05-16T09:16:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.iwr-ing.com\/news\/water-stabilization-duck-pond\/"},"modified":"2025-05-28T14:09:05","modified_gmt":"2025-05-28T12:09:05","slug":"water-stabilization-duck-pond","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.iwr-ing.com\/en\/news\/water-stabilization-duck-pond\/","title":{"rendered":"Rehabilitation of duck pond"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 data-start=\"361\" data-end=\"431\">Feasibility study for water stabilization: Ententeich Herne-S\u00fcd<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"433\" data-end=\"822\">On behalf of the city of Herne, IWR GmbH, together with <span data-contrast=\"auto\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bgl-boos.de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BGL Boos<\/a><\/span> conducted a <strong data-start=\"521\" data-end=\"570\">feasibility study<\/strong> in February 2025 <strong data-start=\"521\" data-end=\"570\">on the <span data-teams=\"true\">restoration of<\/span><\/strong> the duck pond on Erlenweg. It is mainly fed by groundwater and rainwater. Low water levels and a critical lack of oxygen occur regularly, especially in the summer months. The consequences: <strong data-start=\"1180\" data-end=\"1196\">Fish die-offs<\/strong>, unpleasant odors and a significant decline in recreational value for local residents.   <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"1299\" data-end=\"1358\">Objective: Measures for sustainable <span data-teams=\"true\">watercourse restoration<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1360\" data-end=\"1620\"><span data-teams=\"true\">The feasibility study aims to reduce the effects of eutrophication through measures to improve water quality. To this end, both short-term and medium to long-term effective interventions were designed. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"1622\" data-end=\"1681\">Procedure: Analysis and evaluation of the current situation<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1683\" data-end=\"1767\">The following steps, among others, were carried out for a well-founded evaluation:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1769\" data-end=\"1984\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1769\" data-end=\"1817\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1771\" data-end=\"1817\">Analysis of historical and current maps<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1818\" data-end=\"1868\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1820\" data-end=\"1868\">Soil and groundwater-related site assessment<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1869\" data-end=\"1899\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1871\" data-end=\"1899\">Measurement of the river bed<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1900\" data-end=\"1946\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1902\" data-end=\"1946\">Water sampling including chemical analysis<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1947\" data-end=\"1984\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1949\" data-end=\"1984\">Camera inspection of the inlet pipes<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1986\" data-end=\"2161\">Based on these surveys, various options for <strong data-start=\"2048\" data-end=\"2086\">stabilizing the water balance<\/strong> were developed and evaluated with regard to ecological and technical aspects.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"2163\" data-end=\"2218\">Concept of measures for the <span data-teams=\"true\">restoration of<\/span> the duck pond<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2220\" data-end=\"2308\">The concept envisages a staged implementation, depending on the success of the initial measures:<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"\" data-start=\"2310\" data-end=\"2370\"><strong data-start=\"2315\" data-end=\"2370\">Level 1 &#8211; short-term measures (low expenditure)<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul data-start=\"2372\" data-end=\"2514\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2372\" data-end=\"2427\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2374\" data-end=\"2427\">Establishment of continuous <strong data-start=\"2404\" data-end=\"2427\">water monitoring<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2428\" data-end=\"2478\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2430\" data-end=\"2478\">Regular water maintenance for sediment control<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2479\" data-end=\"2514\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2481\" data-end=\"2514\">Renovation of the DN 50 inlet pipe<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 class=\"\" data-start=\"2516\" data-end=\"2566\"><strong data-start=\"2521\" data-end=\"2566\">Stage 2 &#8211;
